About

Saddlebrooke Amenities in Conflict was started by a group of Preserve homeowners concerned about actions being taken by the Board of Directors of Saddlebrooke HOA2. In late September, the Saddlebrooke Pickleball Association (SPA) contacted the Board and asked that 2 tennis courts at the Preserve be converted into 8 permanent pickleball courts. Without getting into all of the history of this request, the Board appears to be leaning quite heavily in favor of SPA. This is despite the facts that pickleball courts had previously been at the Preserve and were removed because of noise issues and courts located in other locations near and around homes were also eventually removed.

We are not opposed to Pickleball. We are apposed to the noise Pickleball generates. In fact a number of individuals within our group are pickleball players. What we are also opposed to is allowing the Board to unilaterally decide how an amenity which was part of the Saddlebrooke development can be taken away and replaced with a different amenity.

The Board maintains that this is not a change in use and per the by-laws and CCR’s the board may modify an amenity without seeking homeowner approval as long as there is unanamous agreement of the Board. We just don’t agree with that. Pickleball, while still a paddle sport, is vastly different than tennis.

You might ask why should you be concerned? This isn’t entirely about pickleball. It is about the rights homeowners have to maintain the environment they fell in love with when they purchased their home in Saddlebrooke. The quiet, the animals and the sky. All of these things can be disrupted by changes to the common area and our amenities. Any one of the changes can affect us all.
